Our Story
Our Journey
In April 2008, during Maria’s second pregnancy, she was riding home from her job in New York City. While sitting on the bus in her uncomfortable, “cute” maternity clothes, she thought there had to be a better way to clothe women during the most exciting time in their life. She dreamed of maternity clothes that didn’t change the way pregnant women feel about themselves, allowed them to keep their confidence and, more importantly – fit properly and were comfortable! After keeping her dream a secret for a few months, one day Maria mentioned her idea to Deborah and shortly we began our journey.
Our Goal
We set out to make maternity clothes more comfortable and ended up with a revolutionary concept. We invented a discreet, patent pending waistband technology that allows bottom garments to tip out and expand, allowing women to wear them before, during and after pregnancy! Ah nirvana! Women now can buy one wardrobe that will fit them at many stages and not just last a few months. This is especially appealing during these difficult economic times. And best of all, Vivique apparel doesn’t look like maternity clothing as we have known – Vivique is classic, cool and fashionable!
Managing Business
We know that it takes time and happy customers to build a successful business. We are dedicated to keeping our word to our customers, vendors and business partners, and operating with ethical integrity. We are launching Vivique with the core pieces of a woman's wardrobe before, during and after her pregnancy. As our company matures and our brand grows, our goal is to expand our line. With that said, for now we are taking a conservative approach to managing our business and inventory, and as part of this effort, we are pleased to offer customers the option of purchasing some of our items on presale - enabling you to reserve styles from our upcoming inventory so you don't need to worry about missing out on the latest styles or that we won't have your size due to popularity.
Why Vivique?
One of the questions we receive most often is... Why the name "Vivique?" The V’s in our patent pending technology are the reason the clothes can fit before during and after pregnancy. Vivir means “to live” in Spanish (Deborah's favorite second language). And there's nothing like living in our V’s!
(The second question we are asked the most – are your models really pregnant? Yes! We feature two pregnant models and one model that is not pregnant so you can see the full range of our products.)

We met seven years ago and soon after, went through getting pregnant and having our first child – both girls! (For years we had been living parallel lives in New Jersey and even got married at the same banquet hall a year apart.)
We have been working women as long as we can remember – since our high school days working after school and summers to save money for college. We have a strong work ethic and believe it is important for women to be able to support themselves – today’s economy reinforces the importance. We believe in working hard and playing even harder (we’ll save those stories for another time!). And we know that no matter how rough one day might be, there is always another day to try again, relax, smile and laugh a little more than the day before.
Our journey is a testament that when you put your mind to something you can do it – we literally built this business from the ground up. Aside from loving to shop (well, Deborah does – Maria not so much) and wearing fabulous clothes, neither of us have a fashion industry background – unless you count the stint we both did at the Limited store in 1988. However, we have been pregnant, we have experienced maternity clothing challenges as the consumer, and we know what fashion voids are in the market – and we have over 40 years of combined business experience.
We did not enter this venture lightly. We researched the market, developed our business plan, designed our line, tried and retried, and made personal sacrifices – as any entrepreneur does. We are involved in all decisions. We pick out every button and every yard of fabric, and we test drive the clothes ourselves to ensure they will give you a fabulous fit.
Vivique is our heart and soul and we BELIEVE in this product, and we believe that there are many other women out there that feel the same way we do about their clothing options before, during and after pregnancy.
We bring this apparel line to you from our hearts so you can look amazing as you go through the most precious time of your life.
